Frisco Depot Museum

August 26th, 2019 by

August means school is back in session, which means we’re all itching to learn a thing or two. Whether your favorite subject in school is history, math, science, or English, we could all use a refresher in our town’s local history! If you live in Hugo, this is easier to accomplish than you think. Drive down to the Frisco Depot Museum at 309 N B St Hugo, Oklahoma 74743, and see what you can learn! There’s way more to see than you even know.

The History

The Hugo Frisco Depot was built in 1914, and in use until the 1960s. Now, in 2019, it serves as a historical staple for the area! In 1978, the Choctaw County Historical Society restored the beautiful building and turned it into the landmark it is today. Keep reading to find out more about what’s inside!

Why Come?

No matter what you’ve heard in the past, there’s much more to see than you’d ever know. Inside the depot, there is a miniature circus, a model railroad, a section of a SW Bell switching center, and an antique whiskey still. There’s even a full-functioning restaurant inside if you decide to grab a bite and make a day of it with the whole family.

If you’re interested in local artifacts, documents, and pictures that all paint a picture of the past, you’ll want to come to check out the pictures of trains, crews, wrecks, and much more. Not convinced? See what Facebook fans had to say:

  • From Jodi B: “We visited in July 2016, and were surprised at the size of the place. It was amazing! My daughter enjoyed the hands-on organ and the model train setup. I enjoyed seeing so many things, including the lunch counter, the school memorabilia, and the war uniforms and such. Our guide was very informative, this was a great stop.”
  • From Jamie Q: “We had such a wonderful time. We’ll schedule a tour next fall. Thank you for all kindness. This is a photo of Madill High School students having a switchboard explained.”
  • From Toni S: “What an awesome place to visit, very beautiful antiques, the caretakers were very knowledgeable will return someday!”

What are you waiting for? It’s time for a family fun day!
