When comparing the RAM 1500 and Toyota Tacoma, it’s important to remember that both trucks are designed as workhorses. They’re meant to haul heavy loads, tow large trailers, and do everything you’d expect from a full-size pickup truck.
As such, they’re both more than capable of handling anything you throw at them daily. If you’re looking for a truck that can do it all, either one will get the job done just fine.
However, some differences between these two models may make one more attractive to you than the other. We highly recommend the 2023 RAM 1500 at Jay Hodge Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM. It’s now available in our dealership. You’re welcome to swing by and take it for a test drive.
Here are some things to consider when deciding between the 2023 RAM 1500 and the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.
The interior of the 2023 RAM 1500 is a huge step up from its predecessor. It has a redesigned center console that makes it easier to use and easier to find your stuff. The RAM 1500 also has more storage space and better organization.
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma’s interior is nice enough, but it doesn’t have the same attention to detail as the RAM 1500. The Tacoma has a lot of wasted space, which means you have extra room for stuff, but you don’t know where to put it.
The Toyota Tacoma’s center console also looks like it’s been thrown together without much thought. It could be more attractive and functional.

The 2023 RAM 1500 has a more powerful engine than the 2023 Tacoma. The base V6 engine, using an eight-speed automatic transmission, produces 305 horsepower. The base engine of the Tacoma is also a V6, but with only 278 horsepower.
Available options for the RAM 1500 include a V-8 gas engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 48-volt electric motor supports both the V-6 and the V-8 engines. The RAM 1500 also sports an available 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that comes without electric assistance.
There’s also a RAM 1500 with a V6 diesel engine with 260 horsepower. But it will only be available until the end of January 2023.
The RAM 1500 is also a better off-roading vehicle than the Tacoma, particularly the Rebel trim. You can get a Tacoma TRD Off-Road, but it’s not as capable. All RAM 1500 models also provide excellent ride quality because they use coil and air springs instead of leaf springs. You can adjust the ride height of some RAM 1500 models to improve off-road performance and fuel economy.
The 2023 Tacoma has more standard safety features than the RAM 1500. It has a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The 2023 RAM 1500 offers automatic high-beam headlights, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control as optional driver aids.
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma may have more standard features, but the 2023 RAM 1500 has a better interior and performance.
