What is the History of the RAM 3500?

The RAM 3500 made its first appearance in the North American market in 1994. It was notable for being the largest capacity version in the Dodge truck lineup. By 1998, the RAM 3500 was powered by a standard Magnum V8 engine under the hood that delivered 250 horsepower. Enhanced engine options were also available in the form of a Magnum V10 and Cummins diesel.

Moving forward to 2001, Dodge made significant improvements in the power and capacity department to the RAM 3500 truck. It was now capable of towing up to 15,100 pounds when equipped with a 5.9L Cummins turbocharged diesel engine.

An all-new version of the RAM 3500 was released for 2003 model year. The exterior of the truck now featured a larger grille and was offered in regular cab and quad cab configurations. Four years later, Dodge enhanced the RAM 3500 lineup with the availability of an all-new Cummins turbocharged diesel engine that offered up to 650 lb-ft torque.

The next generation of the RAM 3500 hit showroom floors in 2009 with enhanced performance options and new architecture. This would be the last release of a new generation of RAM trucks prior to Dodge spinning the RAM brand off into its own separate nameplate in 2001.
