2021 Jeep Cherokee Interior in Hugo, OK

What’s New on the 2021 Jeep Cherokee?

The Jeep Cherokee has been on the road under several names since the 1974 model year and has been impressing drivers each year since its debut. One of the most exciting updates is that Jeep has included several additional driver assistance technologies as standard features in the 2021 Jeep Cherokee. These newly-standard features include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. Jeep also moved several features down into the base trim such as heated exterior mirrors and one-touch power up/down windows. Additionally, the top-tier Trailhawk® model now comes with a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and remote start.

The 2021 model year also marks 80 years of the Jeep brand, so Jeep has included a special 80th Anniversary Edition on the 2021 Jeep Cherokee to celebrate. This year model-exclusive trim is based the Latitude LUX trim, and offers amenities like leather upholstery with contrast stitching, power-adjustable front seats, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and styling elements.

A Look into the Past of the Jeep Cherokee

The Cherokee actually traces its roots back to the Jeep Wagoneer model. Launched in 1974, the Cherokee was very similar to the Wagoneer with the exception of being a two-door model compared to Wagoneer’s four-door configuration. Responding to consumer demand, Jeep released a four-door variant of the Cherokee in 1977.

Everything changed with the introduction of the all-new Jeep Cherokee in 1984. This model Cherokee was a much lighter and shorter vehicle than any of the previous generation models. This new design also helped increase fuel efficiency and maneuverability of the 1984 Cherokee. The vehicle did, however, continue to provide true off-road capability with two available four-wheel drive systems.

The 1997 Jeep Cherokee was once again significantly redesigned to reflect shifting consumer tastes. The factory placed special emphasis on upgrading interior features, as sport utilities were now becoming a preferred mode of everyday transportation.

Jeep has continued throughout the following years to maintain the Cherokee’s off-road legacy while improving interior refinement and features.
